About This Committee

United Nations Commission on the Status of Women

The United Nations Commission on the Status of Women is the principal intergovernmental body dedicated exclusively to gender equality and the empowerment of women. Established in 1946, CSW formulates international standards, develops global policy recommendations, and monitors the implementation of commitments made under the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW).

Delegates in this committee will engage with some of the most consequential and contested questions in contemporary international affairs: how do states translate gender equality commitments into enforceable domestic law? What structural barriers prevent women from full participation in economic and political life? How should international norms interact with cultural and religious frameworks across diverse member states?

UNCSW is a discussion-driven committee that rewards depth of analysis, cultural literacy, and the ability to hold multiple perspectives in tension. It is designed for intermediate delegates who are ready to move beyond procedural basics and engage seriously with the political, legal, and social dimensions of global gender justice.
